The French Revolution of 1789 was a major turning point in the history of France and Europe as a whole. The revolution brought with it sweeping changes to the political, social and legal landscape of France. Women were among the beneficiaries of the revolution, gaining new rights and freedoms, such as the right to own property, the right to file for divorce, and the right to vote.
