OPENING DAY 30th AUGUST 2008

Quotes from letters of thanks about the opening day from key supporters of the new court developments  at West End.

If you could pass on my best wishes to everyone involved in the project as I appreciate all the great efforts that were made to deliver your project in a most professional manner. It is a great credit to the club and it is pleasing that you are being rewarded, as per your plan, with increased members and a thriving junior membership.

Well done and keep up the good work. Hope the weather is kind to you.

Kind Regards

David Marshall - Tennis Scotland

Hope everything goes well and the sun shines. As you know Grant Duncan will be there from sportscotland.

Kind regards

Ruth Anderson - SportScotland

Louise Martin CBE, Chair of sportscotland said: "sportscotland was delighted to have supported the provision of the upgraded courts at West End Tennis Club with a Lottery investment of £60,000 from sportscotland's Building for Sport programme.

"sportscotland is commited to providing local communities with good quality, accessible and well-designed facilities. The courts will ensure that the local community will have access to tennis facilities all year round, helping the growth of tennis in Dundee."

On behalf of Judy and myself, could we thank you for the superb opening on Saturday. The entire programme ran smoothly and would not have been possible without the assistance of, Ann, Maggie, Stewart and everyone else working in the background.

Judy enjoyed every minute at West End and wishes the club every success with your junior initiatives.

My appreciation again, yours Ian Conway - Tennis Tayside.

Many thanks for the invitation to your opening ceremony and the generous public acknowledgement of our involvement in the project.

The extent of the commitment, focus, tenacity and cohesiveness with which the Trustees have conducted the affairs of the club make the Honorary Membership which you kindly presented to me the most satisfying appreciation my contribution to the "Team" delivering a project which I have ever received.

My sincere thanks for the appreciation and for the pleasure of working with you all..........Club House next !!!!!!!!!!!!.

Alasdair Macleod - Macleod Consulting

On behalf of the Tennis Tayside Board members who attended your official opening event last Saturday I should like to say thank you for inviting us, congratulations and well done to yourself and everyone else on your Committee. Everything ran very smoothly, everyone enjoyed themselves and there was loads going on.  Most importantly tennis at West End got a good boost which surely bodes well for the future.

Now for the next stage of the development of the club!

Best wishes

Morag Bull - Honorary Secretary, Tennis Tayside

I thoroughly enjoyed the opening on Saturday and very many thanks for kindly hosting me.  I was particularly taken by the enthusiasm of the young people that were so keen to take part.

In summary and you may quote this, The Gannochy Trust is pleased to be able to support the modernisation of the West End Tennis Club, Dundee, especially as our donation established the confidence for other funders to follow suit.  Our highest priority is supporting Young People and Recreation, and this is reflected exceptionally well by the enthusiasm of the junior players in these state-of-the-art surroundings in Dundee.  The Club's Trustees and Management Committee have performed magnificently in bringing the project together, and we wish them every continued success.

Many thanks again,

Gavin J Davey OBE - General Manager Gannochy Trust

It was good to meet you, Ann and other Club officials on Saturday morning and to see the wonderful opening you'd organised to celebrate your new courts.  Stewart had certainly put in a lot of work and it was great to see so many youngsters participating, many older ones helping and such a large turnout of spectators.  And weren't you lucky that Judy was able to do the coaching and official opening?  Her enthusiasm never fails to amaze me and I was so pleased that it was almost a perfect day weather-wise - no wind, no sun and, even better, no rain.

Your new courts are very impressive and I look forward to hearing how your Club progresses. Who knows, perhaps your teams will go on to win "The Scottish Cup" which they did in 1925 (men), 1950 and 1958 (women) - something to aim for!  But meantime, please keep up your good work - it always comes down to you and people like you who help to ensure that our great game can be enjoyed by more and more adults and juniors and help them to achieve their tennis potential.  And, finally, now that the excitement has died down, I hope that you and your Committee can relax and enjoy some tennis!

Very best wishes,

Christine Laurie

President, Tennis Scotland

Not only did everyone enjoy themselves but Maggie was able to let me know that the catering made the very handsome profit of £226.17.
